2018 - 2022, Spring 2025
Peer Educator/Mentor at Santa Clara University
As a peer educator, I helped develop and teach the curriculum of creative writing classes, helping students write and edit autobiographical memoirs and narratives. As a mentor, I advised a graduating senior on her biographical creative writing piece about the Filipino labor movement, centering around themes of Filipino identity and representation. Both roles entailed developing pieces of 30 or more pages for each individual.

About Me
About Me
About Me

My name is Melissa Cristina Ballete, and I was born and raised in Daly City, the largest Filipino municipality in the United States. My work in writing, teaching, and design has been informed by my experiences growing up as a second generation Filipina-American and my deep-rooted belief in social justice.
What I’ve learned from the intersection of these fields is that art is one of the most powerful ways to connect a community, whether it is song, poem, painting, dance, or any of its thousand variations. Creativity speaks every language, transcends borders, and connects hearts. I hope to curate and continue that in my work.
